Keith Jarrett
Keith Jarrett is an American pianist, composer, and bandleader, born in 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He is one of the most influential modern jazz pianists, known for jazz, free improvisation, fusion, classical music, and solo piano performance. ECM Records notes that his discography includes solo improvisations, duets, trios, quartets, original compositions, classical repertoire, and explorations of the Great American Songbook.
His most important albums include Facing You, Solo Concerts: Bremen/Lausanne, The Köln Concert, Belonging, My Song, The Survivors’ Suite, Standards, Vol. 1, The Melody At Night, With You, and Bordeaux Concert. He is especially famous for The Köln Concert from 1975, widely regarded as one of the landmark solo piano recordings in jazz.
Well-known pieces and performances include “Köln, January 24, 1975, Pt. I,” “My Song,” “Country,” “I Loves You, Porgy,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Bordeaux, Part III.” He is known for spontaneous, highly emotional solo improvisations, his long-running Standards Trio with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette, and his ability to connect jazz, classical music, gospel, blues, and folk influences into a deeply personal piano language. Apple Music and Amazon Music list many of these recordings among his top tracks and albums.
