Van Morrison, born George Ivan Morrison on 31 August 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is a singer, songwriter, vocalist, saxophonist, harmonica player, and bandleader. His music blends rock, soul, rhythm and blues, folk, jazz, blues, Celtic influences, gospel, and singer-songwriter traditions. He first became known as the lead singer of Them, the band behind the garage-rock classic “Gloria,” before building a long solo career.
