Christy Baron is an American jazz and pop singer and actress from the Pittsburgh area. She studied music at Carnegie Mellon University, began as a cabaret singer and pianist, and has been active in New York since the 1980s. Her Chesky Records profile describes her as a dynamic performer with an entrancing voice, and notes that she has also appeared on Broadway, television, and in independent films.
Her most important albums include I Thought About You, Steppin’, Take This Journey, and Retrospective. Qobuz lists these as key Chesky Records releases and describes her style as broader than straight-ahead jazz, blending jazz with pop, funk, world music, and other influences.
She is known for elegant, audiophile-quality vocal recordings and expressive interpretations of songs such as “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “She’s Not There,” “Happy Together,” “Spooky,” “Overjoyed,” and “Got to Get You Into My Life.”
